Farm Happenings

We are hunkering down and trying to get as much done as possible before the big drop in temperatures slated for this weekend. Lots of harvesting and field work!

As always, farmstand will continue to take place at the same time as distribution (4-6PM) at 1505 College Way. Farm pick up is on Fridays anytime from 8am-4pm. Please contact us for a late pick up (Friday or Monday).

Note from an Apprentice

“Hi everyone! My name is Zoey Ortega, and I am a senior at the University of Kentucky. I am majoring in Community and Leadership Development with a minor in Sustainable Agriculture and a certificate in Agricultural Leadership. I am originally from Northern California and moved to Kentucky for the horses! I didn’t grow up around agriculture, but I’ve developed a deep appreciation for it since being an MG-CAFE student. I am passionate about agricultural literacy and hope to pursue a career in education (non-formal) and/or communication to help people better understand where their food comes from.

This semester, I’ve loved getting my hands dirty and expanding on what we’ve learned in the classroom. One of my favorite parts has been taking home some of the delicious produce from South Farm. I recently made a pasta dish with sweet potato, garlic, and oregano, it was a huge hit with my roommates! Being part of the growing side has made me more excited about experimenting in the kitchen and has given me a new appreciation for the time and care behind every crop.

The CSA experience has helped me see how food builds community, not just around the dinner table but also by connecting the people who grow it with those who enjoy it”
