CSA Farm Techs

Job Details

  • Full time, 40 hours a week, Monday-Friday weekdays only.
  • Seasonal from May to November.
  • Starting wage $15/hour, commensurate with experience.
  • Work benefits include a summer CSA share, once-a-week on-farm prepped meals, and a boatload of sweat and fun.

Job Responsibilities

  • Vegetable production including tasks of field preparation, seeding and transplanting, cultivation, and irrigation.
  • Vegetable harvesting and post-harvest handling of over 40 different crops.
  • Rotate with other staff members in distributing the CSA shares to CSA members on both UK campus and at the farm on Thursday afternoons.
  • Assist with Farm Stand sales.
  • Participate as needed in farm activities not directly related to the CSA, such as research projects, facilities managements, outside tours, etc.

Job Expectations

  • Punctuality and professionalism working within a public-facing institution.
  • Demonstrate a consistent positive attitude and extend hospitality to customers and visitors to the farm.
  • Ability to cope with, and practice emotional management in, a fast-paced work environment with fluctuating demands on one's time and energy.
  • Maintain a sense of personal accountability and ownership over tasks assigned, and flexibility to do any required task.
  • Exhibit an excellent work ethic; diligent and self-motivated on tasks to maintain a steady workflow.
  • Willingness to learn and striving to improve, particularly with honing an understanding of crop production and challenging oneself to work more efficiently.
  • Ability to work and communicate well within a diverse team which includes following verbal instructions with a keen attention to detail, listening well, collaborating, and encouraging others.

Job Qualifications

  • Horticultural and/or agricultural knowledge is preferred; passion and interest is a must.
  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs.
  • Capable of working outside in the heat of the day or in rain.
  • Experience with equipment is not required but beneficial; staff members will be trained as needed to safely operate walk behind and 4-wheel tractors.
